Marriage & Divorce – Understanding Your Rights (Syariah Law)

Moderated by Jannelle Lau (Senior Legal Counsel, DSV), and joined by speakers including our Managing Director, Mr Ahmad Nizam Abbas, alongside Mr Muhammad Al-Hakim Abdul Kadir (Assistant Senior Social Worker, PPIS FAM@FSC), the session provided a clear and practical overview of the Syariah divorce process in Singapore.

It covered key areas such as the grounds of divorce, nafkah, custody, care and control of children, and the division of matrimonial assets, while also offering guidance on navigating the Syariah Court process, managing the emotional and family impact of divorce, and accessing legal aid, counselling, and community support. The session aimed to equip individuals who are considering divorce or already undergoing the process particularly those without legal representation with the knowledge, resources, and confidence to make informed decisions with clarity and resilience.
